Area Guide

Bushey is a vibrant town located in the Hertsmere borough of Hertfordshire. With London nearby and Watford on its doorstep, Bushey retains the atmosphere of a smaller town. This is reinforced by the community feel evident in local events such as the Bushey Festival and the Horticultural Society's annual flower and produce show.

Bushey has an interesting and varied history with the first reference of the town found in the Domesday Book. It also has links to the Roman occupation of Britain, with the main road running through the town dating back to Roman origins. Alongside this, numerous sites within the town have been unearthed to find evidence of Roman villas and other Roman artefacts.

Being located close to several film studios at Elstree and Borehamwood, Bushey frequently features as a backdrop for film and TV shows. Many of the area’s notable and historic buildings have also featured in popular TV and film shows such as the old Royal Masonic School for Boys which was included in the Harry Potter films.

Local attractions include the Bushey Museum and Art Gallery. The Bushey Country Club has a golf course, restaurant, gym and a Pilates studio. The annual Bushey Festival takes place every July and includes music concerts, sports events and auctions. The local community has a great deal of involvement in the festival and residents are encouraged to offer ideas each year to contribute to the festival programme.

Bushey is served by a number of excellent schools including the Bushey Meads School which was rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in its most recent report. The centrally located Bushey Academy was rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in its latest report.

Bushey has excellent transport links and Bushey Rail Station (Zone 8) is served by London Overground and National Rail. Watford can be reached in 11 minutes from Bushey town centre, and Watford Underground Station is serviced by the Metropolitan line, which can reach The City of London in under an hour (57 minutes).
